I’m in the process of moving as I write this, and I’ve discovered something during the moving process. People have a lot of useless shit that they can’t throw away. Why the sheer volume of useless junk that I have moved, or stored, just amazes me. Old writer’s journals, some old nes and snes video cartridges, perhaps two to three hundred pages of role playing materials (not books mind you, just characters, world sketches, background stuff that I typed up, things of that nature) and just little odds and ends that I’m sentimentally attached to. And I thought I was so zen and unmaterialistic. Of course there is a big difference between keeping stuff that has emotional value, and buying stuff to improve your self worth.
Aside from sunday comics, Captain SNES should not be greatly affected. I’ll be in the same house with a guy who’s willing to do my editing now, so I’ll have someone to catch all my typos when I try to do a comic 1 A.M. in the morning with little to no sleep the night before. And hopefully my other friend will have a stronger motivation to help me write the Captain SNES theme song for me.
I’ve already announced it on the message boards, but for those of you who don’t frequent them, I’m holding a pseudo-contest. Basically I need 16 bit versions of old NES characters (who didn’t have SNES games of their own). They generally won’t have anything more than walk-by’s, but it’ll add to the flavor of the comics I’ll be doing in january-february’ish. And you’ll get your name put on my credits page, once I get it up. They don’t have to be great, just give them some shading, and I’ll slap them on. And it’s first come, first serve, so if you’ve got a popular character in mind, better get it done soon, lest someone else snatch them up.
And oh yeah, it’s the 1st of the month, so you should vote for me at top web comics. Thanks.
(March 6, 2008): I’ll probably pull this one out of the GMV series at some point, and make it a straight filler.
(March 7, 2008): Personally, this is one of my favorite pieces of email. I’m glad I saved the text for posterity. I wonder though, in retrospect, whether he was intentionally over the top.
